SIR, - I have analysed the peals of Doubles rung during 2008 and published in The Ringing World to date. I found 123 peals, 120 on tower bells and 3 on handbells; 30 in one method and 61 in from 2 to 42 methods. The remaining 32 contained variations and the reports of the 3 peals listed in figure 1 did not conform with Decision (D) C.4 as they did not state the numbers of methods and variations separately; the correction column shows how they should have been reported.
Date | Tower | RW | Report | Correct |
24May | Brislington | 650 | 30m/v | 12m/18v |
12Oct | Llanwern | 1207 | 21m/v | 11m/10v |
15Nov | Lydiard Tregoze | 1305 | 15m/v | 13m/2v |
The peal listed in figure 2 claimed a "variation" (St Dunstan) which uses only standard calls for the parent method (Grandsire) and, in accordance with Decision (E) A.3, is not entitled to a different name.
Date | Tower | RW | Report | Correct |
4Oct | Haughton | 1134 | 2m | 1m |
If any band is unsure how the numbers were arrived at for their peal, I will be pleased to provide details on request.
