Original Minimus

Anthony P.Smith

Since the Central Council meeting at Reigate in 1986 when Decision (D) B.1 was revised, peals of Minimus have been allowed to include round blocks of two or more extents in which each of the different rows occurs the same number of times.

This still does not permit 48s of "Grandsire" Minimus or Treble Bob or Treble Place Minimus "methods" because Decision (D) A.11 requires that methods used in peals at all stages conform to the Definitions and Requirements in Decision (E) A.1. "Grandsire" Minimus does not have more working bells than hunt bells and Treble Bob and Treble Place Minimus "methods" are false in the plain course.

However, 48s of Original Minimus in which each of the 24 different rows occur twice are perfectly acceptable and indeed a peal consisting of 105 different 48s would be quite an achievement. The following 48s are all those using 34 for X as the call and also having each row once at hand stroke and once at back stroke. The figures to the right of each composition are the number of divisions (whole pulls) between calls and PL indicates that a composition ends with a plain division. With the exception of (9) and (10) which are palindromic, the compositions are in pairs, the second of each being the reverse of the first. When rotations of these compositions are included this gives a total of 384 distinct 48s and, of course, an equal number using 12 for X as the call.
