UPTON GREY - AN ENCOURAGING EXAMPLE

Since going to Upton Grey, Hants, just over a year ago, the Vicar, the Rev. John Franks, has had the tower repaired and has gathered an enthusiastic band of ringers under the leadership of Mr. J. Lewis. The bells, which in recent years h ad only been rung occasionally by visiting bands, now regularly ring out their summons to worship.

The Basingstoke District held its spring meeting there on April 15th. The easy-going and melodious ring of six (tenor 9 cwt.) attracted many visitors. After shortened Evensong, conducted by the Vicar, over 50 ringers sat down to a sumptuous tea in the Village Hall. At the business meeting which followed, 18 new members, including all the new local band, were elected to membership of the Guild.
