WINCHESTER DIOCESAN GUILD.

ISLE OF WIGHT DISTRICT.

The spring quarterly meeting of the Isle of Wight District was held at All Saints’ Church, Freshwater, on Saturday, Feb. 27th. About 30 ringers from all parts of the island and several from the mainland were met by the district president, the Rev. H. E. H. Coombes, R.D., Rector of Freshwater, who took an active part in the ringing, conducted the service, and gave an interesting address. The ringers were afterwards entertained to tea in the Parish Hall by the Rector and Mrs. Coombes.

At the business meeting which followed, four probationary members were elected and the representatives on the Central Committee gave their reports of the general committee meeting held at Winchester on the previous Saturday.

It was resolved to hold the next quarterly meeting at All Saints’ Ryde, on Whit Monday, also a combined practice at St. Thomas’ Church, Newport, on Thursday evening, April 15th.

The President voiced his pleasure in meeting so many members of the Guild, including those from the mainland, and Mr. G. Preston, hon. secretary of the Christchurch district, responded on behalf of the visitors. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the president and Mrs. Coombes for their kind hospitality, also to Mr. R. Ridett for presiding at the organ during the service. Touches of Triples and Major were rung on the handbells, and further ringing in Minor methods was afterwards indulged in on the church bells until 8 p.m.
