WINCHESTER AND PORTSMOUTH DIOCESAN GUILD.

PORTSMOUTH DISTRICT AT ALVERSTOKE.

A quarterly meeting of the Portsmouth District was held at Alverstoke on Saturday, October 28th, when members attended from Alverstoke, Bishop’s Waltham, Bramshott, Catherington, Fareham, Gosport, Portsmouth (Cathedral and St. Mary’s), Petersfield, Swanmore and visitors from Epsom and Beaconsfield. Ringing commenced at 2.30 p.m., and at 4.30 p.m. the Guild’s service was held, at which the Rector of Alverstoke (Canon G. Landon) officiated, and Mr. W. Linter (Fareham) addressed those present.

Tea was partaken of at the Bodrick Hall, after which the business meeting was held, the Rector being voted to the chair.

St. Mary’s was selected for the annual district meeting the date being January 20th, 1934.

The Rev. E. B. James proposed a vote of thanks to the Rector for the use of the bells, also to the organist and choirboys.- The Rector suitably replied, and said how pleased he was to welcome the Guild to Alverstoke. The members afterwards returned to the tower for further ringing, which consisted of Grandsire and Stedman Triples, Bob Major, Double Norwich Court Bob Major, Cambridge and London Surprise Major.
