Winchester and Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH DISTRICT.

In brilliant sunshine the first quarterly meeting of the year for the Portsmouth District was held at Swanmore on May 13th. The bells of Bishop's Waltham (8) and Swanmore (6) were available during the afternoon and evening, and the service in St. Barnabas', Swanmore, was conducted by the Vicar (the Rev. A. E. McCaig). A company of 33 partook of a sumptuous tea in the Parish Hall.

The business meeting was presided over by the district chairman (Mr. W. Linter). The election as a non-resident life member of Mr. E. Treagus, of Bognor Regis, was ratified, and Joan Dudman, Rona Gale, both of Soberton, and Ruth Ball, of Wickham, were elected ringing members.

The next meeting will be at Catherington on August 5th.

A vote of thanks was moved by Mr. Macey to the Vicar, organist, Mr. Ainsley, and all who had helped to make the meeting a success.

Towers represented were Alverstoke, Fareham, Hambledon, Lyndhurst, Portsea (St. Mary's), Shedfield, Soberton, Southampton (St. Michael's), Swanmore, Titchfield and Wickham.
