Low numbers considering the talent

The annual 6-bell competition of Winchester District took place at Ropley on 4th May when once again the team from Winchester Cathedral took the honours. Other teams entered from Romsey, Hursley, New Alresford and one scratch team, which was a very low number of entries for the size and talent within the District. Peter and Christine Hill from Hambledon were the judges.

Fifty members were present for the traditional Guild service. It was significant that all but two members of the choir were local ringers or a member ofa ringing family.

Tea was taken within the church. A lavish feast for all had been organised and provided by Tower Captain, Rodney Skinner's wife, Sue and her friends. The District's quarterly meeting followed in the nave with Mr. A. P. (Tony) Smith presiding. Evening ringing at Ropley and Bishop's Sutton with the special practice methods being included completed the day.
