As part of its Millennium Activities the Guild held a Party specifically for members on 30 September in Winchester Cathedral Refectory.
In order to make this a truly participatory Guild activity, each District was invited to contribute towards the Administrative cost of the event, enabling guests to pay for the meal alone.
Ringing took place during the afternoon at Sparsholt and the Cathedral, after which there was time for those who wished to attend Cathedral Evensong.
70 members did credit to the meal provided and this was followed by short reminiscences from Roger Savory and Graham Grant. Owing to his unavoidable absence, further memories received from Fred Mouland were read out by Gilian Davis.
The Master presented specially produced Millennium Certificates to eligible Life Members present, all the while Jack Waters being kept busy photographing the event for posterity.
It was gratifying to note that guests came from each District in the Guild. For a number of those present this was their first taste of a Guild Social occasion. These were members who had responded earlier in the year to the Millenium Recruitment drive.
I wish to record my thanks to the District Representatives who helped to ensure that all of our senior members were aware of this occasion. They considerably eased the task of organising such an event.
