Fortunately it has again been a “quiet year” if you will excuse the pun! Graham has received no requests for advice and Phil only one. This came from Preshute near Marlborough (SDG) and resulted from an unusual arrangement of the local landscape. Preshute church is set on the eastern side of the valley of the River Kennet. Although the valley is some 1000 metres wide at this point, the sound of the bells (particularly the higher toned trebles) was reaching across to a dwelling on the western slopes and disturbing the sleep of the householder’s small daughter, particularly during evening practices. Wise actions by the local band to engage in sensitive dialogue with the family, and to seek all reasonable means to minimise the impact of the bells, resulted in an amicable outcome - an excellent example of best practice in action.
