EDUCATION COMMITTEE

2001 had a reduced number of Education days this year, with the April 28th ~ Plain Hunt Day being postponed because of the need to use towers in rural areas during the Foot and Mouth Crisis.

This course was finally run in November with 23 students. All of who seemed to gain knowledge and experience hopefully in a relaxed and enjoyable fashion.

March saw a Higher Numbers day with 17 students ringing, some for the first time, on 10, 12 and 14 bells. Certain students amazed themselves ringing Plain Hunt and Grandsire Caters inside, a couple ringing touches of Grandsire Caters.

The 20th October was a truly mixed session. Phil Watts kindly took 5 students through a course on Belfry Maintenance. While a further 7 students spent the morning taking a look at Teaching Bell Handling and the afternoon looking at techniques and tips on teaching various early basics. 5 students spent the day tackling the intricacies of Stedman Doubles. At the same Venue, Andrew Craddock explained the complexities of Calling Stedman Triples with 5 students, rumour has it that some touches came round during the practical sessions.

I would like to thank all the members of the Education Committee for their unfailing enthusiastic support and their ability to become Tutors, Team Leaders or any of the roles required when running courses. But most of all their whole-hearted support of the Education Committee ethos of having fun while learning.

Whilst mentioning Thanks the Education Committee wish to give their deepest Thanks to all the Helpers who unfailingly give their time and effort, for single sessions or the whole day ... No Course could run without your unstinted assistance.

The Committee wishes to thank the Towers and Incumbents for the use of their bells especially those who manage to sort the use of their Tower at short notice. Thank you All.
