COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE

The web site is gradually increasing its collection of images. We are grateful to those who have contributed them, if there is not yet an image of your tower then perhaps you might consider sending one to us.

Having email contact via the site seems to be a valued resource, around 25 messages are relayed each month. Sadly only about half our towers have an email contact. We believe that the site is secure, no email addresses are displayed and since tighter anti-spam measures were taken in the middle of the year to prevent “automated form filling” we believe that none has got through. If you are reluctant to divulge your private email address, please give consideration to setting up a Hotmail/Google/Yahoo! account for your tower. These are free and ownership can be transferred if the correspondent changes. It is so helpful to outing/event organizers to be able to make email contact with tower correspondents.

While on the subject of email there are now 180 subscribers to the guild list. Seems a lot but it is a small proportion of the membership and many tower correspondents do not subscribe. This is good way of disseminating information quickly. There is not a deluge of mail, perhaps 3 or 4 messages per week. For more details click on “Mail list” under Communications in the web site main menu.

As usual two Guild Newsletters have been published during the year and as always the editor is most grateful to those who have responded to my pleas for contributions
