SOCIAL COMMITTEE

2010 Guild Dinner

After the sell-out for the 40th anniversary dinner in 2009, ticket sales for the 2010 dinner were disappointing. Nevertheless nearly 70 members and friends enjoyed a convivial evening at the Southampton Park Hotel on May 15th. After an enjoyable meal, the Master thanked Mo Routh and Tessa Smith for organising the dinner and introduced the first speaker. Stephanie Warboys, past master of the Ancient Society of College Youths and currently ringing in Birmingham, entertained the company with a lively and amusing speech before proposing a toast to the Guild. The Master then called upon Roy LeMarechal to reply on behalf of the Guild - this was a unique event and Roy began by stating as much in the style of “Blackadder”. He reminisced over 40 years of membership and told some “embarrassing stories” of other members. After the formal part of the evening, members continued to socialise and make full use of the bar.

Mo Routh and Tessa Smith retired from the social committee after the 2010 dinner. They have worked tirelessly over the last few years to organise successful dinners and the Guild is most grateful to them. A new committee comprising Julia Clarke, Clare Griffiths and Charlotte Colliss was elected at the November 2010 executive committee.
