BELFRY STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE

During the past year the committee has lost one member and gained another. John Simson has moved away and therefore resigned and John Pereira from Titchfield has kindly joined Mark Warner and me, Martin Barnes. We are grateful for John’s time on the committee as convener, a role I have now taken on.

The committee has carried out the following tower inspections this year:-

St Mary the Virgin, Brighstone, Isle of Wight Augmentation to eight with the addition of two new bells, modification and construction of the lower metal frame to take the two additions and turning of the old treble placing the three bells in a line. (May 2017)

All Saints, Ryde, Isle of Wight Replacement of soles and shrouding on seven wheels and re-bushing the clapper on no five and six. The work carried out by John Taylor & Co using local labour to remove and install. (July 2017)

St Mary, Micheldever Measuring the length of the rope on bell no 2 to enable new ropes to be ordered. (December 2017)
