The Guild Inter-Tower 6-bell striking competition took place at Fawley on May 21st. The weather was fine and 6 teams entered from across the Guild. Many thanks to Jack Pease and Jane Pridmore from the Salisbury Guild for judging the competition and to Andy Ingram and family for arranging refreshments.
The young band of learners from Petersfield should be congratulated on their efforts. On their first attempt nerves got the better of them and unfortunately they did not finish the test piece. The Striking Competitions committee took the decision to let them have another go and this time they finished in style. Well done to the team of novices for entering and taking part. The results were as follows:
Position | Tower | Method | Faults | Quarter peal speed | Drawn |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1st | Portsmouth Cathedral | Grandsire Doubles | 6 | 36 min | 4th |
2nd | Basingstoke (St Michael) | Plain Bob Doubles | 8 | 48 min | 1st |
3rd | Southampton City | Grandsire Doubles | 10 | 48 min | 5th |
4th | Eling | Call changes | 29 | 51 min | 2nd |
5th | Petersfield | Call changes | 37 | 58 min | 3rd |
The Inter-Tower 8-bell competition which was to have been at Eling was cancelled due to lack of entries.
The Inter-District 8-bell competition was held at West Meon on 11th June in the morning before the AGM as usual. Many thanks to Simon Edwards who judged the competition assisted by Charlotte Mossop, one of the Guild’s young ringers who I am sure benefited from the experience. The results were as follows:
