My first report as convenor gives me the opportunity to thank the members of the Education Committee who have retired from the committee in the past year: Gail Cater, Andrew Palk, Phil Watts and Nick Allingham. Thank you for your sterling work over the past years. Also thanks to Graham Hedges for hanging on in there, giving an amount of continuity.
The reports on the events during the year were organised by the 1996/97 committee and I must report as a bystander as the majority of organisation was completed.
15/2/97 Joint Education day with the Dorset CA at Ringwood. 15 students. Teaching bell handling. Listening skills. Principles of belfry maintenance. Plain Bob Doubles (plain courses). Surprise Major. It was nice to meet old friends of the DCA in a relaxed atmosphere. Progress was made by all.
12/4/97 Andover District. 5 students. Plain Bob Doubles (plain courses). Plain Bob Minor (touches). An enjoyable session, one of the Bob Minor students has now rung a quarter peal of Bob Minor.
14/6/97 Winchester District. 5 students. 10-bell striking. A really enlightening session. All students gaining confidence in striking and listening on 10 bells. Thank you Peter.
5/7/97 Channel Islands District (Alderney). 4 students. Counting places. An interesting session. New steps taken by all. Thank you helpers.
12/7/97 Channel Islands District (Guernsey). 7 students. Counting places towards Plain Hunt. An entertaining and exuberant session. Thank you to Helen, helpers and students for an enjoyable afternoon.
20/9/97 Portsmouth District. 8 students. Plain Bob Minor and Handbells. A definite improvement in Plain Bob Minor and the Handbell students rang Plain Hunt two-in-hand. Congratulations to the new instructor.
Could YOU help on a course?
If you can ring Plain Hunt you could help with a Call Change course.
If you can ring Plain Bob or Grandsire Doubles you could help with a Plain Hunt course.
Your help would be greatly appreciated. Please let me or your local Education Committee member know.
A special thank you to those who put themselves out to help on all the courses, without you nothing could be achieved. Our thanks to the kind people who made the local arrangements and the clergy for allowing us to use their bells.
